MOORING PLACES FOR FISHING VESSELS IN THE ESTUARY OF POINT UMBRIA (HUELVA).
PUBLIC AGENY OF THE ANDALUCIA PORTS.
Elaboration of the Engineering Design.
Generally, the vessels are mooring chaotically on the river banks, which can bring about negative effects both in what concerns navigation security and vessels unloading in optimal conditions.
For a good organization of the mooring, it is necessary to make a series of infrastructures that should allow the mooring of fishing vessels in improved conditions, with the relevant water depth and that are also environment-friendly.
Floating piers seem to be the best solution here since they determine specific mooring places, they are space-efficient and they are floating installations, thus their only interaction with the seabed are the supporting pillars, and they also provide land access from several positions.
Besides, this solution allows an additional mooring line for the small vessels as well as an access / exit land point so that the vessels could be reached without the necessity of a boat.
In 2011, COTECNO was entrusted with the task of providing a solution for the above mentioned problems in the estuary of Point Umbría (Huelva).
It was found a solution that would allow the mooring of 93 fishing vessels as well as an easy land access from aboard.
The solution consisted in placing a main pier and four perpendicular platforms for the mooring of different vessels, organized according to their fishing systems. The main pier was provided with two shore access points.
Being floating elements, the rocky seabed is not affected, as they are supported by pillars. Besides, according to their morphology, they could be used by different loading boards.
