COTECNO STARTS WORK AT THE STUDY OF ALTERNATIVES FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE INTERMODALITY BETWEEN THE TRAIN AND BUS STATIONS OF PONTEVEDRA.

COTECNO starts work at the study of alternatives which shall facilitate the intermodality between the train and bus stations of the city of Pontevedra. The news is published by the main newspapers of the province.

Xunta de Galicia has commenced today the topographic works which are necessary for the study of alternatives that shall facilitate the intermodality between the train and bus stations of the city of Pontevedra. The representatives of the General Mobility Department of the Ministry of the Infrastructure and Housing of Galicia have supervised today the initiation of these works by the company Cotecno Servicios de Ingeniería y Arquitectura, which was awarded the contract promoted by the Galician Government with the purpose of finding the best formula that would give the citizens a dynamic and safe interchange between the different means of transportation.

One of the main objectives of the Galician Government with respect to transport and mobility is its sustainable consolidation by the adoption and execution of some measures that aim at increasing the number of jobs of the public transportation sector, as for example by ensuring the intermodality and connection between the different means of transportation.

In the city of Pontevedra the train and bus station are very close by, connected by pedestrian and road routes that are less than 200 m long, nevertheless, in order to promote the intermodality and to make the interchange between the two means of transportation - train and bus - easier, faster and more comfortable for the user, it is necessary a series of interventions both for the improvement of the pedestrian connection between the two stations and for the clear delimitation  of the spaces that are dedicated to the pedestrians and to the road traffic.

Improvements to be achieved
The object of the study is to analyse different alternatives of intervention for the improvement of the intermodality between the railway transport of passengers and the road transport by the interurban and metropolitan buses in the city of Pontevedra. The intervention area shall include the environment and the surroundings of the train and bus stations.

The different alternatives of intervention proposed should meet, among other things, the following necessities:

  • The improvement of the pedestrian connections for the intermodal travelling between the train and bus stations.
  • Improvements for the integration of the bus and railway terminals:
  • The reorganisation of the space which is dedicated at present to the parking of private cars at the bus station, delimitating the spaces that are reserved for each type of traffic, pedestrian and road traffic, and establishing a space for taxis as well as for kiss and ride.
  • The remodelling of the facade of the bus stations for the improvement of its identity as a transport centre.
