PROJECT FOR TENDER: THE NEW FISH AUCTION MARKET OF RIVEIRA.

CORSAN CORVIÁN CONSTRUCCIÓN.

Elaboration of Project for Tender.

With a tender budget of 15.900.000 €, in June 2.010, COTECNO in collaboration with TAU-BCN, prepared the technical proposal that CORSAN CORVIÁN CONSTRUCCIÓN submitted at the Tender for the Construction of the New Fish Auction Market of the Port of Riveira.

The proposed architectural model started from the following premises: maximum horizontal occupation of the surface in order to minimize the vertical impact, situation of the most specific functions of the public space in the nearest area to the sea and organization of the internal flows so as to minimize the impact produced by the large trailers, isolating them as much as possible from the eventual routes related to the public space. Thus, it was designed a building formed by the basement, the ground floor, the first and the second floor and a total gross building area of  22.856,50 m2.

Following the above, the construction was articulated into two clear pieces, forming a „U”-shaped volume that embraces the second rectangular volume. The „U”-shaped volume brings together all the sectors of the technical, administrative, commercial (the auction room) and public functions of the fish auction market, while the rest of the building is made up of a group of five longitudinal volumes containing the wholesalers’ modules, separated by corridors that divide the first sale products from those that are stored to be shipped.

The way the two parts of the project articulated, starting from a merely functional justification, made it possible to propose a different solution for the building roof and, at the same time, the transformation of the „U”-shaped volume into a form that (especially when seen from the air) reminds of the position of a fish lying down on the cliff. With the intention of enhancing this image, it was proposed a roof covering system based on the mechanical anchorage of small rhomboidal zinc elements reminding of the scales, for the „U”-shaped building, thus the scales of the „fish”.
