CONGELADOS SARIEGO, S.L. wished to make alterations to some of the company’s cold stores in Rábade with the purpose of improving and optimizing its services as a company for the storage and distribution of frozen fishery products. Thus, it was completely improved a cold store surface of approximately 3.200 m².

Before the beginning of works and with the assistance of COTECNO, it was decided the replacement of the existing fixed shelving systems with mobile ones, thus the shelving systems were compacted and the storage capacity was considerably increased without losing the direct access to each pallet. The shelves were secured to controlled mobile bases which moved sideways. By means of this storage system, corridors were given up and, whenever necessary, it would be opened only the work corridor, gaining thus a storage capacity of 2.952 pallets, which almost doubled the existing capacity at the beginning of the project.  

Once analyzed the new cold stores distribution, they were designed so that it could be used the existing supporting structure. The solution for the floor was a sanitary framework made of Cavity elements, which was provided with a 4-direction air flow function. Over the compression layer of the sanitary framework or ventilation, there would go the insulation, made of 3 layers of extruded polystyrene, each of them 5 cm-thick (resulting a thickness of 15 cm). In the area of the rails of the mobile shelving systems, it was considered insulation highly resistant to compression.
